Much was made of how classy Amy was on this years MAFS UK. But it’s a label she didn’t ask for and doesn’t claim, “I’m not classy I’m from Blackburn” she exclaimed in a recent Facebook comment. Her interactions with Luke on the show divided public opinion with some putting her firmly in the crosshairs of prudishness, while others understood the awkwardness of being on the receiving end of his running sexual commentary.

For Amy, the “banter” left her feeling uncomfortable, which is understandable considering she was often surrounded by cameramen when the comments were made. How would you respond to someone you barely know telling you they want to use your face as a chair, in front of other people? Some of us would be mortified, others would willingly embody the chair. Both reactions are normal.

For now, Amy is recovering from her time on the show and enjoying her close friendship with Adam. Although many of us think they’d make a great couple, they’ve apparently decided to protect their friendship by not taking things any further. Do we believe them? Who knows. Some of us still believe her bumhole was terrorised on national TV and she won’t tell us because she’s classy.

To me, the notion of being “classy” is just another way of pitting women against each other. Classy women don’t wear revealing outfits and fall out of the club at 3am fantasising about kebabs. Classy women don’t speak too loudly, or cackle like witches when they see something funny. Classy women certainly don’t talk about sex in public. Classy women toe the line, never really revealing who they are, or sharing their true thoughts or feelings. Classy women are quiet. Classy women are the epitome of womanhood in the eyes of man.

But why focus on being classy when you can focus on living life on your own terms? Behaving how you want to behave, not how you’re expected to. From one classless woman to another, do you boo!
